Pink Pearl Rectangles
$25
Shoe clips were first manufactured in the ornament-obsessed Victorian era, when instead of buying multiple pairs of shoes, women dressed up their plain footwear with an endless variety of detachable bows, buckles, and jewels. Flappers played croquet in rhinestone pairs, fast-talking female reporters clipped them onto their oxfords and Audrey Hepburn used all kinds to embellish her black ballet flats. We've bought up a huge stock of different styles that were probably manufactured in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Each pair is carefully attached to our own card, which was inspired by Edwardian-era button packaging. These art deco-inspired rectangles are made of molded plastic and predate the outsourcing of most accessory production to China - the word "France" is embossed onto their backs. Measuring 2.5" by 1.75", they are a soft opalescent pink and resemble bakelite, an early version of plastic. They're meant to make you feel like you're walking down the Champs-Elysees, even if you're just schlepping across East Houston Street.
