Shoe clips were first manufactured in the ornament-obsessed Victorian era, when instead of buying multiple pairs of shoes, women dressed up their plain footwear with an endless variety of detachable bows, buckles, and jewels. Flappers played croquet in rhinestone pairs, fast-talking female reporters clipped them onto their oxfords and Audrey Hepburn used all kinds to embellish her black ballet flats. We've bought up a huge stock of different styles that were probably manufactured in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Each pair is carefully attached to our own card, which was inspired by Edwardian-era button packaging. These navy rosettes are made from stitched, pleated grosgran ribbons that have been shaped into three-dimensional spirals. You might feel like Carmen Miranda when you wear them. Each measures about 2" in diameter and has a thick cardboard circle and metal clips affixed to its back.
