Shoe clips were first manufactured in the ornament-obsessed Victorian era, when instead of buying multiple pairs of shoes, women dressed up their plain footwear with an endless variety of detachable bows, buckles, and jewels. Flappers played croquet in rhinestone pairs, fast-talking female reporters clipped them onto their oxfords and Audrey Hepburn used all kinds to embellish her black ballet flats. We've bought up a huge stock of different styles that were probably manufactured in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Each pair is carefully attached to our own card, which was inspired by Edwardian-era button packaging. These art deco-inspired translucent rectangles are made of molded plastic with the word "France" embossed on their backs. Measuring 2.50" by 1.25", they are a mottled black and brown which was made to imitate tortoiseshell. Hopefully they'll make you feel like you're strolling down the Champs-Elysees, even if you're just schlepping across East Houston Street.
