1920s Eleventh Hour BPOE Medallion

$1,100

Sold!

Made in the early 20th century, this gold and enamel medallion was once worn by a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - an American fraternal organization founded in 1868 which is known for its charitable work and community service. The hand pointing to the clock symbolizes the “Eleven O'clock Toast,” a ceremony dedicated to remembering members who are absent (“the homecoming of those who wander”) or deceased members (“the mystic roll call of those who will come no more”). A lovely tradition, but to be honest, when we first saw this piece our first thought was: "it’s wine time."
