A silver denarius depicting the goddess Libertas holding an abacus and cornucopia. In ancient Roman culture, liberalitas was the virtue of giving freely (from liber, "free"), hence generosity. This coin was minted under Elgabalas who ruled as a teen; his short reign was notorious for religious controversy and alleged sexual debauchery.
