Charles X Hand & Ouroboros Portrait Pin

$1,400

Sold!

Charles X was the last Bourbon king of France, reigning from 1824 to 1830. Younger brother to Louis XVI and Louis XVIII, he came to the throne after decades of revolution and restoration. He attempted to Make France Great Again, let's say: he believed he could bring back traditional monarchy, Catholic authority, and aristocratic privilege. But after the liberal French Revolution, people weren't ready to go backwards. Charles X was forced to abdicate the throne and flee the country. France moved forward, but the owner of this pin was one of the loyalists who wished it didn't. Wearing it was a way to show support for the disgraced king (quietly. The portrait could be covered or removed if necessary). And the ouroboros encircling the portrait is significant: it says even though the Sun Kings appeared to be gone for good, everything comes back around eventually.
