Victorian Acorn Bangle in Original Box
Sold!

This tricolor bracelet looks to have been made in colonial British India - the original box (which comes with it) is marked "Hamilton & Co Jewellers Calcutta". Calcutta was the center of luxury European retailing in India during the 19th century. In 1880, when this bracelet was made, the British Raj was in full swing - this racist, exploitative project was one of the most destructive colonial endeavors in history. Incredible to think that this acorn jewel (acorns: a Victorian symbol of hope, beginnings, renewal and rebirth) was the product of such a time and place.
