Early Victorian Cut Steel Comet Brooch

$550

Sold!

Cut steel jewelry came into fashion in the Georgian era and was made and popularly worn through the end of the 19th century. The jewelry is made from cast steel components that were originally faceted by hand, but developments in technology toward the mid to late 19th century made it possible to produce these components by machine. This early Victorian brooch is fashioned in the shape of a comet and features cut steel petals riveted to a brass base.
