Egyptian Revival Hieroglyphic Monogram Gold & Enamel Ring

$3,650

Sold!

This Egyptian Revival signet-style ring showcases a bold enamel cartouche set in warm gold. The heiroglyphs spell out a monogram: the owl = M, lion = L, and horned viper (a very cool animal) = F/V. Together they form a mysterious personal cypher, rendered in the visual language of ancient Egypt. While true Egyptian cartouche rings were made for royalty, this early 20th-century example reflects the period's fascination with antiquity. Monogrammed signet rings were a modern fashion of the 1900s, and here's what one looks like filtered (probably not historically accurately) through the aesthetics of the ancients. A beautiful mishmash.
