Hallmarks are Birmingham anchor, lion (sterling silver) and lowercase Gothic k (1909-1910 date cycle). A fern is engraved on the front of this 1" wide bangle. The New York Botanical Garden describes 19th-century "fern fever," characterized by obsessive collecting, taxonomic arguments, and widespread design motifs driven by Victorian popular culture. The craze, peaking between 1850 and 1890, was fueled by technological advancements like the Wardian case, the repeal of glass taxes, and increased botanical exploration. The trend was dying out by the time this bracelet was made, but the fern clearly still had some die-hard fans. 7" circumference.
