Georgian Amethyst Mourning Ring

$4,000

Sold!

IN THE 18TH century, your wealth could be displayed after you died in the form of memorial rings. During your life you would budget for these to be given out at your funeral. The more money you had, the fancier the rings and the more you could afford to give away. This one bears the death details of Eliz Honnor; it's set with a fancy cut amethyst set in 18k gold and black enamel (which is very chipped and faded). She died in 1751 but her memory has lived on for 274 years.
