Georgian Cut Steel Fringe Necklace

$1,850

Sold!

Cut steel jewelry was intended for evening wear - their dark luster was considered to be the most spectacular under candlelight. At the height of its popularity, the finest examples could command prices higher than gold. Georgian pieces like this collar have as many as 15 hand-cut facets per stud, and every one is individually affixed to the base plate. Pieces of this quality are rare in in part because steel rusts easily, and many surviving examples have degraded. Never get it wet.
