Georgian Enamel Ouroboros Mourning Brooch

$1,650

Sold!

On the reverse of this gorgeously engraved and perfectly enameled serpent, we see an inscription - In Memory of Susan Castle(?), who died on May 24, 1814. Her life in England would have been dominated by news of the long and complex Napoleonic wars, which ended a month after she passed. Her family memorialized her with this pearl-studded brooch. A tiny rose cut diamond glitters in the snake's eye.
