When the anchor motif appears in 19th century jewelry it represents hope. The symbolism derives from a Bible verse that describes the feeling of hope as an anchor for the soul. This remarkable jasper intaglio features the personification of Hope standing beside an anchor. This stunning carving was originally housed in a wax seal fob which we've converted into a pendant.
