Georgian St Michael's Mount Love & Friendship Pendant

$2,700

Sold!

A double-sided Georgian pendant dated 1767, its tiny scenes rendered in silk embroidery. It was (incredibly!) almost certainly worked with human hair as thread; this was common for love and mourning tokens of the era. One side depicts St Michael’s Mount in Cornwall, a tidal island crowned by its medieval abbey, long associated with protection, divine guidance, and steadfastness. The reverse shows six pairs of clasped hands with ruffled cuffs, a motif of unity and friendship.
