Georgian Pink & Green Topaz Locket

$2,600

Sold!

By the Georgian period, Brazilian mines had replaced earlier sources in Saxony and the Urals as Europe’s primary supplier of topaz. London jewelers had steady access to pale pinks, fresh greens, and warm yellows, colors that suited Georgian taste perfectly. Pink topaz was especially prized at this moment. Rarer green topaz was used sparingly, usually as accent stones. For centuries before this locket was made, classical and medieval writers attributed protective and calming properties to topaz, believing it could cool anger. By the 19th century, topaz had become known as as a stone that could bring emotional balance. It was perfect for decorating sentimental lockets.
