In adversis etiam fida is a Latin phrase that translates to "faithful even in adversity" or "still loyal in hardship." Gold filled fob & white Tassie glass. c. 1850. Wax (green!) is still visible in the grooves! The image is a broken column (Neoclassical) with ivy climbing all over it. The message: even when life is broken, like the shattered column, true loyalty remains, just as the ivy continues to cling and flourish. Love/Friendship survives misfortune. 1" tall seal, 1/2" x 5/8" seal. Heavy tarnish (as expected) and abrasions to seal. Was used to seal letters.
