Late 19th Century Italian Coral Bead Hoop Earrings

$2,500

Sold!

These coral hoop earrings would have been a quintessential souvenir for a well-to-do traveler on the Grand Tour—a months-long journey through Europe that served as a finishing education for the elite. In Italy, coral was believed to offer protection, especially to women and children, and was prized for its beauty and natural origins. The carved beads, in a warm salmon color, are arranged in a graduated arc.
