Late 19th Century Russian Wild Boar Necklace

“Schwein haben” literally translates from the German as “to have a pig” but actually means “good luck”. Since the Middle Ages, pigs have been associated with good fortune. Some sources suggest that pigs were a symbol of wealth and prosperity as swine farmers always had plenty of food. In old Nordic mythology, the boar was a sacred animal and was a symbol of fertility and a protective talisman. This late 19th century wild boar is modeled in gilt silver with garnet eyes. Russian hallmark.
