Late Victorian Diamond Crested Snake Ring

$3,600

Sold!

In 1896, this snake was made in London in 18k gold and set with nearly half a carat of old-cut diamonds along its back. No motif was more beloved in Victorian England than the serpent: Queen Victoria’s own engagement ring was a snake, and the style became a national obsession. The symbolism is rich and ancient: across the globe and throughout millennia, the coiled snake has represented eternity, devotion, transformation, and protective wisdom.
