Medieval Garnet Ring

$3,400

Sold!

THIS 13TH - 14TH century ring features a garnet cabochon set in a high-carat gold bezel. The setting is built using early medieval techniques: thick, hand-formed gold with minimal decoration, relying on the natural beauty of the materials. The stone is seated in a simple collet, a style typical of the period. At the time, garnets were prized across Europe for their deep color and supposed protective properties. Goldsmiths worked within tight guild systems, and pieces like this were worn daily, passed down, and sometimes buried with the wearer.
