Medieval “Tart Mold” Garnet Ring

$2,500

Sold!

An exquisitely rare Medieval finger ring modeled in high karat gold and set with a dark, oblong garnet cabochon. Nineteenth century collectors named this style “tart mold” owing, unsurprisingly, to the bezel’s resemblance to the shape of a pastry crust. There are small tears at the base of the setting but they don’t compromise that integrity of the ring, which can be worn, but ought to be worn with care.

  • Materials

    22k gold (tests), 5.1mm x 2.7mm rectangular cabochon garnet

    c. 13-14th Century

  • Condition

Good - 2 tears along the base of the head (these don't compromise the structural integrity of the ring); we've had the setting tightened
