Mid 19th Century French Lapis “CD” Spinner Seal Necklace

$1,950

Sold!

Lapis lazuli has been mined since 4000 BC, and has been prized the world over not only as a decorative stone but also for the ultramarine dye made from ground and powdered lapis. King Tut’s sarcophagus was heavily lined with lapis lazuli, Michelangelo favored the blue paint made from its powder, and Catherine the Great had an entire room in her palace adorned with lapis doors, fireplaces, and picture frames. This French spinner seal fob is made in 18k gold with a three-sided lapis bead etched with the initials “CD” in gothic script.
