Mid Victorian Turquoise & Pearl Etruscan Style Earrings

$1,700

Mid-Victorian jewelers were deeply influenced by archaeological discoveries, and Etruscan Revival jewelry became a way to signal that you were up-to-date with the latest news and LEWKS from the ancient world. These earrings draw directly from that classical aesthetic language. The granulated gold work and domed forms were inspired by ancient Mediterranean prototypes, but filtered through a 19th-century lens. Turquoise and pearls were a beloved pairing of stones during this period. Turquoise was associated with protection, health, and good fortune, while pearls carried long-standing meanings of purity. Combined with yellow gold, they felt both ancient and modern to Victorian eyes.
