Scottish Victorian Witch's Heart Necklace

$1,450

Sold!

This witch's heart pendant dates to around 1870 and showcases a hallmark of the Scottish Victorian genre: locally sourced hardstones in a mosaic-style setting. Agate and jasper surround a rich golden cairngorm (smoky quartz) at the center: Scotland's beloved native gem, mined from the Cairngorm mountains. The "witch's heart" motif, with its asymmetrical tail curling to one side, has had protective associations as far back as the 17th century. In the Victorian era, it was also worn as a sign of love "bewitched".
