Staurolite, prized as a protective talisman. In southwestern Virginia, naturally occurring staruolite crystals often form remarkable cross shapes, earning them the nickname "Fairy Stones". According to local folklore, these crosses were created from the tears of fairies (!) mourning Christ's crucifixion, while geologists recognize them as twinned staurolite crystals formed within metamorphic rock. Their cross shape made them popular good luck charms, and Virginia's Fairy Stone State Park was named for the abundant specimens found there. This one is c. 1930s, maybe? 10k top. About 1" tall including ring at top.
