This pressed / molded glass seal was invented by James Tassie: Scottish artist, died 1799, known for glass reproductions of classical gems. his vast collection of casts of ancient cameos, known as the "Tassie gems", were an indispensible resource for neoclassical designers. He was the master of 18th century mini portriature and gem reproduction.Some scratches. Very elaborate gilt mount. 5/8" x 1/2" oval seal. c. 1830
