Victorian Agate Specimen Pendant

$950

Sold!

With the field of Paleontology in its infancy, and with Darwin's ideas gaining traction, Victorians became fascinated with fossils. In the 1880s, "specimen jewelry" was HOT, featuring unusual stones that were organic or geological curiosities rather than traditional gems. This orb-shaped pendant is set with agate and jasper cabochons in striking natural patterns, plus one that appears to be fossilized wood.
