Victorian Banded Agate Falcon Intaglio Ring

$2,800

Sold!

This falcon seems to glow from within; he's carved from a hunk of banded agate that sits within a closed 18k mount, bouncing golden light back through his body. We're seeing the Hay family crest, which features the bird perched on a tree stump. From this dead-seeming plant, a branch sprouts; it represents new life arising from the old, or prosperity after a near-catastrophic event. Themes of continuity, possibility & rejuvenation are all packed into this natural scene. The Hay family motto: "Speravi in Domino" = "I have hoped in the Lord." The engravings inside tell us that the ring was passed down within the family over nearly 100 years.
