Victorian Carved Onyx Sphere Earrings

$850

Sold!

Dating to 1880, these sophisticated late Victorian earrings feature onyx spheres carved with parallel stripes suspended from gold ear wires. These earrings were most likely made to compliment a bereaved woman's mourning attire. The wearing of color may have been a no-no in the early stages of mourning, but accessories were a must in the Victorian period, no matter the tragedy.
