Victorian Cleopatra Collar

$8,000

Sold!

They're called "Cleopatra collars" because during the 19th century Egyptian Revival craze, any reference to Ancient Egypt boosted sales. This necklace doesn't come from Egypt in any kind of archeological sense, but it echoes the broad ceremonial collars seen in Egyptian art, and more loosely, the fantasy of Cleopatra as Victorians imagined her. You, too, could be like the Egyptian queen: sensual, regal, theatrically feminine, and dripping in gold. The back is engraved with a tiny "MVN" and there's a hinged loop hidden at the front so you can add a pendant.
