Victorian Coral Branch Drop Earrings

$1,600

Sold!

Cascading branches of coral pile on top of each other, abundant, in a kinetic set of earrings made of material from the Mediterranean sea. Most likely a souvenir from someone's Grand Tour, they were made with jubilance and a sense of abundance. By the 1880s, the Grand Tour was so popular that it wasn't just for the ultra/mega rich. Women were touring, and the middle classes sometimes got to go, too. The silver earwires clue me in to the fact these earrings were probably marketed to a tourist with a more modest budget.
