Victorian Etruscan Style Petite Torpedo Earrings

$1,100

Sold!

The amphora-ish elongated teardrop shape and applied gold decoration tells us these earrings are Etruscan Revival, part of the larger Archaeological Revival movement that also includes Egyptian Revival and the rarer, stranger Assyrian Revival. In the 19th century, the Victorians were obsessed with ancient civilizations and their jewelry, some of which was newly excavated from sites in Italy and around the Mediterranean. Naturally, fashion followed.
