“French jet”- actually black, or sometimes very dark red, glass - became the go-to material for producing mourning jewelry during the late Victorian era. It was a reasonably affordable alternative to the popular Whitby jet, a form of fossilized wood mined from one small area in England. This incredible mourning necklace features floral-themed/punk rock elements of faceted French jet affixed to black-lacquered metal. Large scale and ultra dramatic.
