Victorian French Jet Torpedo Earrings

$1,400

Sold!

French jet—actually a type of polished black glass, not fossilized jet—was a brilliant 19th-century innovation. Its high shine and faceted sparkle made it nearly indistinguishable from true Whitby jet, while being more affordable and accessible. In Victorian England, French jet became closely associated with mourning jewelry, its glossy black surface reflecting the era’s strict etiquette around dress and adornment.
