Victorian Infinity Knot Snake Mourning Necklace

The engraving on the back - "Sent but for a moment" - makes me think this necklace (once a brooch) was a memorial piece for a child. Utterly heartbreaking. In the mid-19th century mortality was a much more common part of life, but it still comes for us all. This snake locket's knotted body drives home the theme of eternal love. The glass panel is ready for your photo or hair (or fur).
