In the Middle Ages, pigs were a sign of wealth and prosperity because they were easy to feed and reproduced quickly. Fast forward to modern Germany, where "Schwein gehabt" ("got a pig") is a figure of speech that means "to be lucky". This hefty solid gold 9k cutie was made around 1890 as a good luck talisman.
