Victorian “Pari Animo” Intaglio Memorial Ring

$3,800

Sold!

Pari Animo is a Latin phrase that translates roughly to "with equal mind" or "with like spirit." According to Fairbairn's Book of Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland, the crest depicts a ship gun carriage bearing a piece of ordnance, accompanied by the motto associated with the Leake of Mile End Middlesex family. The sentiment is one of steadfastness and resolve. The Birmingham assay marks date the ring to 1871. Seven years later, an engraving was added to the shoulders: "Robert Hoyland Obt July 30th 1878". The exterior of the shank is engraved In Memoriam. Very fine work.
